Off track: Awesome Gujju Joke

BILL GATES organized an enormous session to recruit a new Chairman for Microsoft Europe.

5000 candidates assembled in a large room. One candidate is Kantibhai Shah.

Bill Gates: Thank you for coming. Those who do not know JAVA may leave. 2000 people leave the room.

Kantibhai says to himself, “I do not know JAVA but I have nothing to lose if I stay. I’ll give it a try.”

Bill Gates: Candidates who never had experience of managing more than 100 people may leave. 2000 people leave the room.

Kantibhai says to himself “I never managed anybody by myself but I have nothing to lose if I stay. What can happen to me?” So he stays.

Bill Gates: Candidates who do not have management diplomas may leave. 500 people leave the room.

Kantibhai says to himself, “I left school at 15 but what have I got to lose?” So he stays in the room.

Lastly, Bill Gates asked the candidates who do not speak Serbo – Croat to leave. 498 people leave the room.

Kantibhai says to himself, “I do not speak one word of Serbo – Croat but what do I have to lose?” So he stays and finds himself with one other candidate. Everyone else has gone.

Bill Gates joined them and said “Apparently you are the only two candidates who speak Serbo – Croat, so I’d now like to hear you have a conversation together in that language.”

Calmly, Kantibhai turns to the other candidate and says…”kem chho?”

The other candidate answers…”Choop bes gadhedaa…”

The Nokia 5800

I’ve been posting a lot about computers and software and thought I should post something about the other side of the geekiness that is Maneck. MOBILE PHONES! I currently own an N81 8GB and am a big Nokia fanboy. I love the Symbian OS and am completely bowled over by the S60 Touch OS. In short, I WANT THE NOKIA 5800.

I’ve read quite a few reviews and it’s a decent iPhone replacement. I’m not saying that the Iphone is bad…but it just lacks those few features…and the OS isn’t too open…but that’s all my point of view. Well, from the top of my head here are a few things that I think the iPhone lacks and the 5800 has:

  1. The most important thing – PROPER BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY and A2DP. I don’t know what it is with Apple and their lameness of not allowing file transfer via BT. I know they did it to prevent people from sending songs and they’re totally against piracy and all…but what about photos, videos etc?
  2. Handwriting Recognition – A smartphone should have this! Every PDA and handheld PC has had it since ages…so why not? I personally love the text prediction in the Iphone but I think adding this feature would’ve increased the phones WOW factor. From the looks of the reviws, the Nokia 5800 has got this feature right!
  3. SMS forwarding
  4. MMS
  5. A decent camera with flash that is CAPABLE OF RECORDING VIDEOS.
  6. A web browser with built in Flash.
  7. A god damn decent price!! I’m not paying £350 for an iPhone that’s locked only to one network and has nothing but features that are pretty basic nowadays.

I know these features can be added with extra apps from the App Store but my point is that the phone should have these features built in! I mean that’s what we’re all paying for! Anyways I can’t wait to get my hands on the Nokia 5800. It’s on sale for AED1500 in Dubai that’s around £275 and I’m surely getting one in a few days!

Keep your Laptop in shape!

I bet a lot of my friends know me and that I’m a complete freak when it comes to keeping my Laptop in shape. I’ve messed up loads and loads of times and it’s very very likely of me to pop in a Vista install CD every once in a while and do a fresh install. But it’s been long since I’ve done that. I think I’ve messed up my Laptop so many times with dualbooting and bad software that I think I’ve now reached a point where I can avoid messing up.

Alright so here’s what I do to keep my Laptop in shape…And yeah this is for Windows…All you Mac fanboys shut it!

  1. Run Ccleaner atleast twice a day.
  2. Run Registry Mechanic atleast once a week.
  3. Run Smart Defrag everyday – Defrag and Optimize all my disks
  4. Keep my desktop free from clutter – I use Stardock’s ObjectDock which gives me a Mac-like dock to put all my stuff in.
  5. Uninstall any programs that I don’t use.
  6. Run the Windows Disk Cleanup Utility. Just search for Disk Cleanup in your Start Menu.
  7. Keep only one application to do a task. Don’t install 3-4 media players to play your mp3s. Same goes for browsers.
  8. Regularly install important updates from Windows Update.
  9. XP users need to install an anti spyware software – Vista’s already got Windows Defender.
  10. And lastly, a good antivirus software – I recommend Kaspersky Antivirus. I was using NOD32 but fell prey to a virus that it couldn’t detect or remove. I installed Kaspersky and voila! problem solved.

I think if you follow these instructions – any Windows PC would work wonders! My laptop stays on for months at a stretch without having to restart due to crashes etc. I don’t know why people crib so much about Vista..I absolutely love it!

Google Chrome no more Beta!

I’ve been following Google Chrome since the time it was introduced. I was excited to try out Google’s revolutionary browser and I think their products have a reputation of being light, zippy and very stable.

I installed the beta version to find the browser looking smart, working like a dream but with one crucial problem. The browser was incapable of scrolling up when I used my touchpad. I downloaded the several updated beta versions but none of them solved the problem. This was very unlikely of Google and I must say I was thoroughly disappointed.

Three and a half months down the line, Chrome is out of beta and v1.0 has been launched. I thought I’d give it one last try… IT WORKS!! AND LIKE A DREAM!! ITS FAST, ZIPPY, SMART, GOT COOL ANIMATIONS AND SURELY BETTER THAN FIREFOX!! Although there’s only one thing preventing me from making the switch to Chrome – Extensions. The day extensions prop into the Chrome scene…I’m in!

Till then it’s FF2…And I haven’t yet made the switch to FF3 because a lot of my extensions are incompatible..especially Real Player Download Plugin v1.0

Posted using Google Chrome – I’m truly loving it!!(Sorry Mac and Linux users, Google is still working on developing Chrome for you guys)
